Later addressing the gathering, Giselle Mehta, opined that by integrating art classes into a gallerys functioning, appreciation of art as well as the creative spirit are assured for the future. This is important because the active, striving self of a child today is suppressed by excessive attachment to YouTube and Facebook, resulting in reduced human potential. In contrast, art students who actively create and not just passively receive content are fruitfully utilizing their talents. It is also possible for those whose artistic gifts have grown with sound training to aspire for emerging careers in areas of aesthetics and design.
She regretted that the early school pleasures of drawing and coloring do not persist in the later years for all but an interested few. Artistic development is known to strengthen general mental faculties and its possible for people to benefit from art instruction at any stage of life. She praised the spontaneous nature of childrens artistic vision that can sometimes be surprisingly mature and at the very least offers an intimate glimpse of the young world. Art classes help those with a specific aptitude to find their niche, while also contributing to holistic personality of general achievers. The exhibition made clear that the art instructor Mr. Preetham Fernandes has drawn out each childs talent by combining the free flow of imagination with correct technique. She congratulated the young artists on their bright beginnings and hoped they would persevere for further growth and perfection.
K P Shenoy also spoke on the occasion. He said that adults are always of the opinion that child art is childish. But in reality it is not so. Childs psychology is different from that of adults and a child can see and imagine things that most adults cannot. As the child grows, he starts losing something which the adults fail to protect and support. Have you seen paintings of children? As an experiment someone asked an unconditioned child to draw my family. The child without hesitation started drawing first the picture of house, on the top of the house his loving father, on either side his mother and himself, sister and his loving dog. The whole painting was one and cannot be separated. The picture was drawn by the movement of a single stroke. There was no clinical perfection. There was no division or parts in between. It had an undivided focus. In a way the whole picture was created with one centre and it was just perfect in every way. he concludes.
The students included Varun, Cheryl, Aashna, Suraksha, Rahul, Sakshi, Muralidhar and Suhas participated in the art exhibition and exhibited their art on the occasion. These children have experimented with several mediums like oil, acrylic, water color, charcoal and so on. There are realistic, semi realistic and abstract series of art works. Each of their works is unique with an aesthetic essence in them.
Rahul delivered the vote of thanks.
